The Draydel House

The Draydel House, led by artist and designer Eran Grebler, is renowned for its one-of-a-kind dreidels that capture tradition and draw inspiration from the colors, moments, and stories of everyday life through a fresh artistic lens. But these aren't just dreidels for Hanukkah; they're playful tokens of joy, humor, and self-expression meant to be enjoyed year-round.
The studio has built a reputation for transforming the classic dreidel into a piece of modern art, bringing vibrant expression, innovation, and sometimes even humor to this cherished symbol of Jewish culture.

The Story Behind Draydel House

Eran Grebler, a Judaica artist renowned for his skill in merging ceramics with innovative spinning mechanics, brings a distinct artistic touch to each piece he creates. His journey began after his military service, when he invested in a ceramic kiln and pottery wheel and set on to a career as an artist. His first gallery, located in Old Jaffa, focused on Judaica pieces and included ceramic dreidels that became an unexpected hit in the U.S. Inspired by this success, Eran dedicated himself to developing his dreidel designs, building a unique collection that blends tradition with innovation. Today, his studio in beautiful Caesarea houses over 800 dreidels, along with other unique Judaica designs for Hamsas, mezuzahs, and menorahs.

Design Philosophy

Eran believes that art should be interactive and engaging, inviting touch and sparking joy. This philosophy is beautifully embodied in his dreidels, which he sees as more than just decorative objects. By setting them on a spinning base, he transforms them into playful instruments of amusement and discovery.

His flagship creation, "The Blessings Dreidel" invites interaction and adds a touch of whimsy to the everyday. With each spin, customers can uncover a playful prediction for their day, whether it be success, wealth, health, or even love. This interactive element not only brings smiles but also adds a unique dimension to the traditional dreidel, making it a delightful and engaging experience for all ages.

Inspiration

Eran's inspiration flows from the world around him, from the everyday interactions with his customers to the grand sculptures he encounters on his travels. He infuses his dreidels with humor and whimsy, creating pieces that spark joy and connection.

One customer inspired a dreidel etched with playful excuses for missing work, while another sparked the creation of a dreidel designed to appease a wife with endearing phrases. There's even a chore-themed dreidel to make household tasks a bit more fun for families. Eran's creativity knows no bounds, as evidenced by his "Dreidel Chess board game" featuring 32 dreidel-shaped playing pieces.

His keen eye for transforming everyday objects into spinning wonders led him to create a dreidel inspired by an environmental sculpture he encountered in New York City. This unique perspective is reflected in his diverse collection, where even seemingly mundane forms become playful expressions of art and tradition.

And speaking of unique creations, Eran also holds the record for crafting the world's tallest dreidel – a towering 18-foot, half-ton masterpiece that stands proudly at the Caesarea train station.

Eran's dreidels transcend age, appealing to the young and the young at heart. "One day, four generations came to me: a grandson, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was 82 years old," he recounts. "They stood in a line, each one convinced that the dreidels were meant for his age group. In the end, it was incredibly funny because the grandfather bought a train menorah where the engine was a dreidel, which seemed like the most childish choice of all. It was proof that my dreidels are for every age." With their playful spirit and artistic charm, The Draydel House dreidels invite us all to connect with the child within and rediscover the joy of this timeless tradition.
