More about Doron Zeevi
Doron Zeevi's career began with a significant milestone when he was chosen as the first student from Shenkar to present his final project at the ARTLINK exhibition, an event showcasing young and promising artists under the auspices of Sotheby's auction house. This exhibition was displayed both in Israel and internationally, marking the start of his illustrious career. Throughout his journey, Doron has participated in numerous exhibitions, winning awards for his innovative designs, and his works have been featured in art and design publications. His solo exhibition "Small Joys," which explored the design of unique holy utensils using nostalgic family materials, earned him the Rosen Award for his use of green technologies and recycling materials.
Inspiration
Doron Zeevi's work is driven by a relentless pursuit of new ideas and a deep connection to his personal life. One pivotal moment in his journey was the passing of his father. Seeking a way to memorialize him, Doron discovered an old tradition of creating holy items from the clothes of the deceased. He began embroidering his father's clothes, which led to the creation of a significant exhibition. This project garnered much attention and numerous inquiries, inspiring Doron to continue designing tallit bags and tefillin pouches.
His inspiration is rooted in the juxtaposition of various elements, blending ancient and contemporary design, kitsch and modern aesthetics, industrial processes, and handmade artistry. His creations often incorporate surprising raw materials, reflecting his personal experiences and stories. This eclectic mix of influences results in a unique Israeli design language that bridges the gap between the religious and secular, the traditional and the innovative, and the industrial and the artisanal.
Design Philosophy
Doron Zeevi's design philosophy is centered on the fusion of different worlds. He seamlessly merges the sacred with the profane, the traditional with the contemporary, and the industrial with the handmade. This approach creates a dynamic tension in his work, resulting in pieces that are both deeply meaningful and visually striking. His dedication to sustainability is evident in his use of green technologies and recycled materials, which not only contribute to environmental preservation but also add a layer of depth and authenticity to his designs. Doron's ability to blend these diverse elements into cohesive, thought-provoking pieces sets him apart as a leading figure in the world of Judaica design.
