About MERCé

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background. What sparked your passion for design? What inspired you to start your own brand?

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but at age 24, I decided to move to Israel to study Industrial Design at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem. After finishing my studies, I worked for many years as a Project Manager in the Israeli high-tech industry. A few years ago, I decided to return to my roots and explore my alternative ideas for jewelry design. That’s when I started MERCé, to bring my vision to life.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I wake up very early and start my rounds all over Tel Aviv, visiting suppliers and collaborating with my two freelance goldsmiths. I also handle trips to the post office to send orders worldwide. I open my studio and store in the Noga District at 10:30 AM and work here until 6 PM, balancing creating jewelry with the operational side of running a business.

What are some of the challenges and rewards of being a designer in Israel?

I love living and working in Israel, but the challenges are real—especially during times of political and military conflict. Artists need peace of mind to create, and when violence flares up, it becomes hard to focus. Sometimes, it’s so dangerous that we can’t even open our studios. Tourists are hesitant to visit, and I’ve received hate messages on social media. Despite these challenges, the rewards are immense. Creating something beautiful in such a complex environment gives my work purpose.

MERCé's Philosophy and Inspiration

How would you describe your design style?

As a product designer, I’m passionate about creating conceptual jewelry that pushes boundaries while maintaining elegance and minimalism. My approach blends avant-garde ideas with a refined, timeless style. I strive to transform everyday moments into extraordinary experiences through unique, bold designs that are also effortlessly sophisticated. I incorporate a range of unique materials found in both nature and industrial use, such as quartz stones, onyx, lava beads, and cotton cords, alongside gold and silver, to create pieces that truly stand out while remaining timeless.

What are your main sources of inspiration for your designs?

Everything around me inspires me—memories from my childhood in Argentina, shapes, textures, materials, landscapes, even scents! Living in Israel has also deeply influenced my work, where the daily challenges of life push me to find beauty in the midst of chaos.

How does Israeli culture influence your work?

In Israel, strength and resilience are essential qualities. This environment has inspired me to channel those intense emotions into my designs. The constant tension and stark contrasts around me have influenced my jewelry, which is bold, alternative, and unapologetically strong. My pieces are a reflection of the spirit of perseverance that surrounds me every day.

What are some of the key values your brand represents?

MERCe is part of the Slow Fashion movement. I focus on sustainability, sourcing high-quality materials, and creating timeless pieces. I believe in making designs that not only last but also make a statement about conscious consumerism.

The Collection

Tell us about your latest collection. What inspired it?

My latest collection is a celebration of resilience. It’s inspired by the contrasts and complexities of life in Israel, as well as my personal experiences.

What are some of the key pieces or styles in this collection? What’s your favorite piece?

I work with silver, bronze, and gold plating, creating pieces that are both striking and wearable. One of my favorite pieces in the collection is a silver cuff that reflects the strength and beauty of imperfection. It’s bold yet minimal, which is the balance I always aim for in my designs.

Who is the ideal customer for this collection?

Someone who isn’t afraid to stand out. My ideal customer appreciates unique, conceptual designs and values the story behind the jewelry. They are people who want their accessories to express not only their style but their inner strength.

How do you see people wearing and styling your pieces?

My jewelry is versatile. It can be dressed up or down, worn daily or saved for special occasions. I love seeing my customers mix my pieces with their own style to create a look that’s entirely personal.

What’s one thing you want people to know about your brand?

Each piece I create is a statement—crafted to remind its wearer of their inner strength, ability to adapt, and the power to find light in every situation. Through my designs, I hope to offer a sense of solidarity and a reminder that we can create something beautiful no matter the circumstances.
