Yaara Rabinovitch
Yaara Rabinovitz is an architect, artist, and designer whose creative journey has evolved from architecture to ceramics and glasswork. Over the past year, she was forced to leave her home in Kibbutz Amir, in Israel's Upper Galilee, due to ongoing rocket attacks from Hezbollah in Lebanon. Despite the instability, she remained devoted to her artistic practice, traveling between her northern studio and central Israel. Her dedication is evident in her ceramic creations, which blend form, function, and profound personal expression.
More about Yaara Rabinovitch
Yaara completed her bachelor's degree in architecture at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design and worked in the field for two years before realizing that architecture was not her true calling. "I needed to work with material, to get my hands dirty, and to wake up with excitement for my craft," she recalls. Her passion for ceramics led her to Copenhagen, where she pursued a master's degree in ceramics and glass after falling in love with Scandinavian design during a student exchange program.
Upon returning to Israel, Yaara established her first independent ceramics studio in Tel Aviv while simultaneously working in high-tech as a web designer. During the second COVID-19 lockdown, she visited northern Israel for the first time and instantly felt at home. Since then, her connection to the north has become a defining aspect of her artistic identity, influencing her work and creative process.
Design Philosophy
For Yaara, the plate is the foundation of her creative language. "It is my building block, the starting point for every piece I develop," she explains. Her work is deeply rooted in geometry, primarily revolving around circles and lines. Even when creating wall art or lighting fixtures, the circular form remains a fundamental element in her designs. This minimalist yet organic approach allows her to create timeless, harmonious compositions that feel both structured and free-flowing.
Inspiration
Despite the instability of the past year, Yaara has continued to push her creative boundaries. Traveling between her parents’ home in Rehovot and her northern studio, she has learned to make the most of every moment she spends creating. Her work has been exhibited in a solo show at Beit Benyamini, a group exhibition at Beit HaAdrichal Gallery, and a residency program in Old Jaffa in collaboration with the Association of Plastic Artists. She has also participated in projects with Fresh Paint Art Fair and Tolman’s, including a special collaboration with basalt artist Samer Sha’ar, whom she met while working in Kibbutz Amir. This experience introduced her to the possibilities of working with basalt, a material that now fascinates her.
As she looks ahead, Yaara hopes for stability and the ability to work consistently in her studio. Finding balance between her art, her home, and her ever-evolving journey remains her goal. Through her creations, she continues to explore the delicate interplay between form, material, and personal expression.
